2014 Entertainment Favourites

I should've made sure I had the time to post this before 2014 ended, I know. I'm late. What's new?

As the homebody you already know I am, I always have a million things to watch, read and listen to. People always ask me, "Oh, don't you get bored if you stay home?" Please. How could I ever get bored with the amount of good things I have to entertain myself with? There are new albums and books coming out every week and either new or old tv shows I always wanted to give a chance to waiting for me. Now, it is really hard to make a list of the things I enjoyed the most this year (I have good memory, but this post would be endless), so I just put together a few of the things I could find. Notice that not everything I've been into is pictured above because I don't have a material copy of every single book or tv show that I love -and not enough tablets either to show you more logos-.

As far as music is concerned, the first album I got obsessed with last year was Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' The Heist, which I do have a copy of (obviously), but I chose not to include it in the picture as I've talked about it a million times already. Just for the record, I still think it's amazing. I saw Fall Out Boy live last year, as well as Macklemore, and they blew my mind, so I just had to include the album I listened to over and over around the date of the show, Save Rock and Roll. Then, a few months later, Ed Sheeran's X came out and I thought I had never listened to something so genius in my life. I usually get tired of the albums I listen a lot to, but this one's still living on my phone. It's so so good. Then last month Santa Claus listened to my prayers and got me Ella Henderson's Chapter One. I am so in love with her voice, you don't even know. It's probably the best album ever by an X Factor artist. Absolutely great. And last but most definitely not least... Taylor Swift's 1989. Hands down, album of the year. 

Choosing the books I wanted to talk about was the hardest task ever as 1) I read quite a few books that got to me last year 2) I don't have a copy of most of them. Pictured above is The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O'Farrell, which I'm currently writing an academic paper on, and I decided to include it simply because I'm not used to enjoying the books that I have to read for class that much, yet I loved this one. The one next to it is We Were Liars by E. Lockhart, which is the best YA novel I've ever read. Saying too much about it would be giving things away, so let me just tell you that when you find out what happened in the novel you will want to throw it out the window, Bradley Cooper style. My favourite book of the year is probably one of those books you read about and think "Alright, this may just be the biggest cliché ever..." but it turns out to be wonderful. Clichéd? Yes, a little bit. But it's a really cute story without being incredibly cheesy. That is You Had Me at Hello by Mhairi McFarlane. (I'm still daydreaming about Ben.)

Lastly, TV shows! I find it so hard to follow new shows because at some point I always end up forgetting to watch a certain episode and then I have to catch up and ain't nobody got time for that. That's what happened to me with How To Get Away With Murder. It is absolutely amazing and that's why I'm including it, even if I'm still stuck on episode 4, because it's the only new show I've gotten into this year. As you may know, I have also been obsessing over Criminal Minds with my sister, which I still think is genius and I still watch every weekend. However, the show of the year has to be Breaking Bad. Yes, I do know it ended in 2013, but I only just got around to start watching it back in November and boy, is it great. I'm currently halfway through season five and I'm torn between "I want to know what happens" and "I don't want it to end". Even if you don't think you're into tv or movies about drugs, just give it a go. You will most likely love it.

As a bonus that I hadn't even thought of until I finished writing about tv, the movies I enjoyed the most in 2014 were, no doubt, The Wolf of Wall Street, Gone Girl and an early 2000s flick called Whatever It Takes. I know there must have been some really good ones this year that movie geeks would be outraged that I haven't mentioned, but I have to confess that I don't watch nearly as many films as I'd like to. First of all, because my salary as a nanny does not allow me to go to the cinema that often (yes, mainly because I spend all of it on makeup, clothes and books, so what) and second, because I'm too lazy to watch them at home. I always think, "God, do I really want to spent two hours sitting here watching something? No, I don't." And then I watch eight Breaking Bad episodes in a row. Smh. (Hey, there's a New Year's resolution! Watching more films!)

Looking back at my favourite tv shows and and movies, should I be worried that most of them have something to do with breaking the law? I mean, there's a lot of murder, drugs, money and psychopaths. I see a pattern there...

Six Christmas Songs

Ho, ho, hooooo!

I know I said I would start posting on Wednesdays and Sundays but given that it's Christmas Eve tomorrow and most people will be busy spending the day freaking out about what to wear, including me, I thought it'd be a good idea to move it forward to Tuesday just for this week. I wanted to write about something festive today and my first idea was a Christmas gift ideas posts, but haven't we seen a thousand of those already? Plus, don't you all have your Christmas shopping done by now? You should, at least, if you don't want to end up on the naughty list this year!

I'm sure you all have seen a few posts on Christmas songs as well so I know this won't be ground-breaking material, but I felt like sharing with you a few songs I've been listening to this season. Some are new, some are classics, but I hope you enjoy them all nonetheless.

Love, Listen, Watch, Read: September

I am currently planning a blog post on what my life has been like lately (a life update, if you will), which I think will go up at some point next week, so we'll just leave my monthly highlights for that one. Not that anyone cares that much anyway, but the other day I was just thinking about how last year, when things started going wrong and I wasn't 100% me, I blogged about it. I wasn't even blogging regularly at the time, but I still decided to write about how I wasn't feeling my best. Why not let you all know when I'm feeling amazing and things are going great too?

As you may know, my summer spending ban finally came to an end this month, so I've been loving quite a few new (and old) beauty products. I fell in love with Revolution's G i r l s  O n  F i l m palette as soon as I opened the package. It is so pretty. I have only tried a few of the matte shades so far and the colour payoff and staying power is unbelievable, especially for the price. Makeup Revolution is one of the brand that proves that affordable does not equal bad quality. Now, I may be a bit late to the party, but I've also been loving the Electro Baby Lips. Initially I got B e r r y  B o m b (can't beat a purple lip) and a few days later I came back for P i n k  S h o c k, but while my sister did buy that one, I ended up getting O h !  O r a n g e  ! instead. I thought it would look too orange and so that it would be more suitable for the summer months, but it is the perfect nude lip for me. I always feel like I'm way too tanned to pull off nude lipsticks and I have finally found something that does the job for me. You go, Maybelline!

As for entertainment, there really hasn't been much variety. For some reason I haven't been reading much, but I am finally finishing T h e  Q u e e n  O f  T h e  T e a r l i n g, which I loved, so that's my book of the month. In fact, I've spent this month doing three things: going to university, working and watching C r i m i n a l  M i n d s. It has been on tv every weekend for the past few months and every Saturday and Sunday morning you can find me and my sister sitting in front of the tv like nothing else matters. We got so much into it that we decided to start watching the show from the beginning. And now I'm obsessed. It's such a smart show. I've said it before and I'll say it again, big up to whoever comes up with those storylines. I highly recommend it - it will blow your own mind!

The Vamps & Windy Selfies

 

Back in 2010, Taylor Swift released a song called "Today Was a Fairytale" as a single from the soundtrack for the film Valentine's Day. It wasn't included in any of her albums so nobody knew if it was going to be in the setlist for her upcoming tour. When she discussed the idea with her band, her banjo player Mike Meadows suggested that they should "only play it if that day actually was a fairytale." (x) So shall we do the same with Weekstagram?

All you need to know about this week is that The Vamps are awesome live and you should go a) check them out b) see them live if you have the chance. And that we suck at taking selfies when it's windy.

July Favourites

Ever since I started reading blogs I've seen plenty of posts on beauty favourites of the month and to be honest I've always wanted to do one, but at the end of every month I just feel like I haven't tried or loved enough products as to do it. I don't want this blog to be strictly about beauty as there are many many other things that I love, so a couple of days ago when I saw Jess from Mismatched Knitwear had written a post about her monthly favourites in general (read here!), I thought "Wow, this is perfect!" so I'm just gonna give it a try and see what I come up for this month's favourites. :)

Ombre hair: Back when I was 15/16 I used to be a blonde and as much as I liked it, I decided to let my hair grow since having to be touching up my roots every two months was absolutely annoying (and expensive). Then I became obsessed with ombre hair but of course I couldn't get it done because I didn't want to look like a rainbow had just puked on my head  so I had to wait until my hair had grown enough as to be able to dye the ends of it... which was last week! I am now a very happy ombre haired girl.

Flatform sneakers: Alright, I admit at first I thought they looked scary and quite 90s-ish, but after seeing them on my friend Nerea I absolutely fell in love and I was already planning outfits in my head even before I was able to buy them... Am I the only one who does that? No? Yes?

How I Met Your Mother: I used to love this tv show a couple of summers ago, actually I believe I watched like 5 seasons in just a month, but somehow I just lost interest. Now, though, it's back on tv every day and I have totally fallen for it again! (New & last season is starting next month! I'm eeexciiiiteeeeed!!!)

Can We Dance by The Vamps: The Vamps is an Indie Pop band from the UK and they were opening for McFly on their last tour. They upload covers on youtube every once in a while (you can check them out here) and they will soon be releasing their first single, Can We Dance. The official audio is not available yet, but they've already performed it live and you can listen to it here. It's REALLY GOOD.

Nothing To Lose by Emblem3: Straight from The X Factor USA, Huntington Beach based band Emblem3 is releasing their debut album Nothing To Lose. I'm terrible at describing music genres, but they're said to make alternative hip hop, reggae fussing and pop rock. Honestly, I think they're just different from most artists out there right now. You can purchase their album on iTunes here, but it is also available on YouTube if you'd like to give it a listen first. ;)

Frozen yogurt & cotton candy: Alright, I'm blaming my friend Laura because she's got me addicted to frozen yogurt with white chocolate and smarties... because we're that healthy. And cotton candy - what can I say? It's summer, the time of funfair nights. You just gotta eat cottong candy!

Neon nails: You'll be coming home with me tonight and we'll be burning up like neon lights... Eeeekkk!! Summer just makes me want to play with my nail polish a bit more and as much as I've been loving pastels, I gotta say that now that I'm tanned I'm just LOVING neon pink nails. Yes you can see me from Mars.

And that's it for my monthly favourites. I thought it'd be shorter but what can I say, I just like to ramble on! Haha I quite enjoyed it so I might do it again in about 30 days time :) What has made you happy this month?

Daisies & Lipsticks - The Beginning

Hello to you reading this and welcome to my blog!

A few weeks ago I realized I was wasting way too much free time procrastinating instead of doing something useful with my life. Then I thought, what do you like to do the most? And the answer is: writing, English, makeup, fashion and so on. Which is the best way to let all this creativity out? That's it! A blog!

The truth is that talking about and wanting to do is much easier than actually doing it. It's taken me weeks to come up with a name I liked and to be honest, I'm still not sure of what this blog is going to be about! How unprofessional of me! To begin with, as I said, the content of this blog will include all things makeup and fashion. News I find interesting, reviews, things I enjoy or dislike. But in all honesty, I will probably end up talking about my two other great passions too, music and literature, because somehow I always end up rambling on. ;)

So basically, that's me. A girl with a lot of things to talk about and who's just found a creative getaway. I am no expert in any of these things but I'm already enjoying this, so hopefully if anyone reads this blog they'll enjoy it too.
